Topic: The Safe Food for Canadians Regulations: Food regulatory framework, its implementation, and amendments to support food labelling innovation.
Description: The Safe Food for Canadians Regulations was published in January 2019. The presentation will provide an overview of the creation of this new Regulation and the new food regulatory framework that is now in place in Canada. The key features of the Regulation, its implementation and further amendments to support innovation and streamlining labelling requirements will be highlighted.

Natasha started her career in food safety in 2003, working as a HACCP Coordinator at a dairy in Nova Scotia. She began working for the Canadian Food Inspection Agency 17 years ago, and has worked in a variety of roles in food policy and regulation. She is currently managing the Food Safety Requirements and Guidance team responsible for the interpretation and guidance on the new Safe Food for Canadians Regulations, working in collaboration with other food programs at the CFIA.

After starting with the CFIA in 2001, spending her first year with the Agency in various branches and programs, Laura found a home in the Policy & Programs Branch, spending the first half as a program officer in various food programs. She then joined the team who drafted the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations. Following that project, she worked as the Chief of Planning and Reporting, developing the tactical work plan used by food inspectors, which included the Agency’s risk-based inspection program. Recently, in 2021, she became the manager of the Food Labelling team, where she manages a team of experts in labelling requirements who lead complex labelling projects, like the Food Product Innovation regulatory package, published in July 2022.
